Diese Dissertation untersucht das Motiv der Bewegung als einen der wichtigsten Faktoren bei der Formung des Amerika-Bildes, wie es sich in der Zeit des Modernismus – ab den 1910er Jahren bis zum Zweiten Weltkrieg – in Literatur und Kunst darstellt und von der amerikanischen und europäischen Öffentlichkeit empfunden wurde und immer noch empfunden wird. Amerika als die “neue Welt,” in der jeder sein Leben neu anfangen und selbst bestimmen kann, ist ein zentrales Symbol für die Moderne, sowohl in ihrer Bedeutung als Stilepoche als auch in ihrer Bedeutung als Ära des sozio-politischen, ökonomischen und kulturellen Aufbruchs infolge der Veränderungen durch die Industrialisierung. weiter... |
| Abstract |
This doctoral dissertation investigates the motif of motion/movement as one of the most important factors in the forming of the image of America as represented in the period of modernism, from the 1910s to the Second World War, in literature and art. It investigates how this motif was felt, and is still being felt by the American and European public. America as the New World where anyone can start his or her life anew and define it themselves is a central symbol for modernity, not only in its significance as a stylistic period, but also in its meaning as an era of socio-political, economic and cultural upheaval and awakening as a consequence of changes wrought by industrialization. more...
